Now enough hormones (Yes, Aunt Flo is visiting), on to the To Be Read book of the week!
Love Is The Higher Law by David LevithanGoodreads description:
First there is a Before, and then there is an After. . . .
The lives of three teens—Claire, Jasper, and Peter—are altered forever on September 11, 2001. Claire, a high school junior, has to get to her younger brother in his classroom. Jasper, a college sophomore from Brooklyn, wakes to his parents’ frantic calls from Korea, wondering if he’s okay. Peter, a classmate of Claire’s, has to make his way back to school as everything happens around him.
Here are three teens whose intertwining lives are reshaped by this catastrophic event. As each gets to know the other, their moments become wound around each other’s in a way that leads to new understandings, new friendships, and new levels of awareness for the world around them and the people close by.
David Levithan has written a novel of loss and grief, but also one of hope and redemption as his characters slowly learn to move forward in their lives, despite being changed forever.
I usually don't put books that haven't been released yet here on TBR Tuesday, mostly because they aren't in my TBR pile! I only share about books I already own on TBR Tuesday, and before BEA/Teen Author Carnival I had never owned an ARC before it came out. Honestly. I don't receive books from publishers... like ever! Ghostgirl was the first book I was ever sent for review for the blog, because I am a big sissy and won't ask publishers/authors for books. However, I now am in the possession of multiple ARCs from BEA, so be expecting to see some not yet released books on Tuesdays for the next few months or so.
I have a confession, I have never read a David Levithan book. Don't shoot me! Khyrinthia has already scolded me. I know he's awesome, I have read a few of his short stories, I just haven't gotten around to reading his books. Well after meeting him in NYC I was convinced I was missing out. I mean any one who composes the song "Oh Libba Bray" and then sings it live at the Tiger Beat performance in Books of Wonder rocks my socks. Sorry if you weren't there guys. I can't find any youtube footage of the serenade. I know Mitali has some on her camera so leave her a comment on her blog, Alley of Books, bugging her to upload it! Regardless it was hysterical and awesome! Not to mention that everyone else I know who has read the book already gave it rave reviews. After I finish Ghostgirl & Ghostgirl Homecoming by Tonya Hurley which I have for review I am moving right on to Love Is The Higher Law.
The events that happened on September 11th changed us all, but I can't even imagine how scary it was for people in or around New York City. I wouldn't usually want to read a fiction book about the events for fear the author wouldn't "get it right" but I trust David fully with the matter. Now lets hope I can keep the tears hidden in public as I read.
Love Is The Higher Law is available on Amazon for pre-order now and will be released on August 25th, 2009.
While writing this post Korianne was still in a Dawson's Creek kind of mood and was listening to the soundtrack.
Korianne Fun Fact: On September 11th, 2001 Korianne's Mom pulled her & her sister out of school because their cousin Sarah (who's like a sister to Korianne) was on a flight and they couldn't get a hold of her. Korianne has never been more terrified in her life as she was that day. Sarah was ok, but Korianne will never forget that day.
I totally can't wait to read this book either. I mean, I OWN it but I have a million of other books that are in my Must-read-by-July-1st pile that the books that I REALLY want to read have been put on hold... Like: Fire, 20 Boy Summer, this book,Go Bovine, Mamma Zink's book (I got half way through before I realized that I had stacks of other books I needed to read), Geektastic, Liar, Leviathan, and more books.
ReplyDeleteDavid Levithan is a riot! (and a stalker ... of me) I haven't yet read one of his novels either, but I LOVED his short story in Geektastic.
ReplyDeleteGlad your cousin was okay. :)
ReplyDeleteGenevieve: I totally know that feeling! The TBR pile is enormous and I have even loaned out some of the big ticket books.
ReplyDeleteLenore: I know! He's freaking hilarious! How do you get authors to stalk you? I need this power. Also, don't let Khy hear this. She scolded then threatened me.
Laina: Yes, thankfully.
Congrats on getting you first ARCs . I loved Boy Meets Boy, (also by David Levithan), so I will be going out and buying this book when it comes out. Look forward to your thoughts!
ReplyDelete- Mik @ I Am Nonfiction
Mik: Thanks! It wasn't my first ARC, but it was the first on to make it into TBR Tuesday before it was published. I bought Boy Meets Boy in NYC but I left it there so he could sign it. I am going back in August so I will read it then (probably on the plane ride home) I finished Love Is The Higher Law and it was amazing. I will have a review up soon.
ReplyDeleteThis book is on my TB list. Love the cover.
ReplyDeleteCindy: I have finished it already and I must say that you will not be disappointed. It was awesome.
