I'm a Bookshelf Whore!

Yep, that's right I said it! My name tag should read like this:

As you guys all know I am sort of obsessed with bookshelves. I even include my "That's a Bookshelf" feature on Manic Mondays where I share an awesome bookshelf with you guys. Unfortunately for me my dream bookcases are out of reach at the moment due to money issues. So I have been forced to go for cheap-o ones that I find at garage sales. This often means that when I am moving these bookshelves around they break. This is not a good thing. I have had to buy 2 new bookshelves in the past month to accommodate the broken ones and my growing book collection. I am a person who believes in taking the best care possible of her books so boxing them up is out of the question. Just this past week another one bit the dust.

RIP "Sarah Dessen" Bookshelf (Yes, I name all my bookshelves after my favorite authors)

A picture of "Sarah Dessen" the bookshelf. I often put my feet on her, this could have led to her destruction.

"Libba Bray", "John Green", "Maureen Johnson", "Jenny Han" and "Siobhan Vivian" are mourning the loss of their good bookshelf friend at the moment.

The "John Green" "Jenny Han" and "Siobhan Vivian" bookshelves holding back tears at the funeral of their friend.
They try their best to meet my needs, and they are not too shabby for garage sale finds. However with the loss of "Sarah Dessen" there still isn't enough room for these books:

The leftovers that don't fit on the shelves.

What do you do when a child loses a pet? You buy a new one of course! I had plans to buy another bookshelf but lucky for me CSN Office Furniture has just offered to foot the bill and provide me with a brand new one in exchange for a review! I have never reviewed anything besides a book before so I am ecstatic to do so!

I jumped on the site earlier this week and I found bookshelves galore. This is way better than chocolate & peanut butter at the same time people! I found book walls, adorable children's bookshelves, and even stackable bookshelves. However I do have to keep the space factor in mind. And while I would love a book wall I am afraid I only have room for one more bookshelf. But that's the nice thing about this Office Furniture site, you can get bookshelves of any size or price! Not to mention the free shipping! I considered all the options and I decided am going to adopt the Woodbridge Home Designs 418 - 418 Series Three Shelf Bookcase in Natural. Her name is to be "Sarah Ockler" and I will let you know when she arrives at my house. Until this you can stare at her picture in awe of her awesomeness!

Not only is she the perfect size, but she doesn't require assembly and she folds up which will really come in handy when I move to New York City. This is beyond awesome and again I want to thank Jonathan at CSN Office Furniture for providing me with this opportunity.

  3. Samantha: I was pretty stoked!

Lee Verday: You're telling me! I am sort of limited to one room so I have to pare down. It's getting harder and harder! I just eliminated 60+ adult and children's books. Worst feeling ever until you realize other people are going to get to read them so it's ok. Also I am excited to have Jess take over the twitter! The totes needs her own though!

  4. Alley: I do know that you can score a similar bookshelf here if you are interested: http://justyourtypicalbookblog.blogspot.com/2009/07/who-wants-to-win-bookcase.html

  5. I have one of those folding bookcases but mine is a bit taller with 4 shelves but they are great...you will love it! I could use about 6 more but have to find room for them first---maybe if I moved books, I'd find the space! Interesting post..fun to read..thanks!

  6. Bingo: Glad to hear it. It's pretty sturdy right? That was my only concern about the folding part.

  7. Woman!
I envy your book collection and adore your shoes!
Wish the swedish library had a better supply of english YA books, It does'nt suck entirely but I want MORE!! :) Meanwhile, I'll check out your great blog and make a list of all the books I want to read and wait patiently for them to be released here in sweden, which take time. greetings from Alexandra in Sweden :)

  8. Alexandra: You're Swedish? I heart Swedish people! I adore my shoes too! They are definitely my favorite pair. If there is ever a book you want really badly and can't get your hands on it email me and maybe we can work something out with me sending it to you.

  9. Yes, I am :) I live in Gothenburg. Thank you for your offer, I'll keep it in mind if my patience would ever run short.

  10. Alexandra: Awesome! And no problem! I send books around the world all the time. You could send me a good recipe for almond cake or something!

  11. Is it just me or does it seem like book cases are super expensive? I am in need of a new one and I am just not willing to pay alot of $$ for one just yet.

Went to a few yard sales and nothing is around. AGH! I need a new book case before I get buried alive in my many many stacks of almost toppling over book piles. LOL

    Congrats on scoring one.

  12. Cindy: Yes, that is very true. I have been lucky to get mine for $10-$15 at garage sales but they do come with a price, they often have damage. While they still might be out of your price range you should check out the site. Some of their options were really affordable for new bookshelves. Not to mention the free shipping is really nice.

  13. So I'am curious, what's so special about Swedes? what do you know about Sweden? :D

    ReplyDelete
  14. Alexandra: Not much I must admit. However every Swedish person I have ever met has been SUPER sweet. While this is only about 5 people I am still impressed. Plus you guys created ABBA, IKEA, and Swedish Fish. Need I say more?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Swedish Fish? I have no idea what you mean :S
You mean pickled herring? 'cuz thats a national dish.
I LOVE ABBA!! And IKEA!! :D Did you like the movie Mamma Mia?

    I'm sorry about your friend.

  16. Swedish Fish are a candy. http://20prospect.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/swedish-fish.jpg They aren't really Swedish, but you know they are pretty much amazing. If you ever get the chance to eat some go straight for the reds and the greens. Yellows & oranges are just not as good. I think they are sort of named after your national dish, but they taste nothing like them. ABBA & Ikea = loveliness. I loved Mamma Mia! The Take A Chance On Me Scene brought me to hysterical laughter! Oh, and thanks about Drew, but everything is ok. It's been 6 years and I am just happy I had the chance to know him.

  17. Hahaha the candy, yes now I know! We have them in almost every store and I like them too. :)

  18. Alexandra: I love how we keep chatting in this comment! The red and greens are the best aren't they? If you ever just want to chat in real time I am pretty much glued to twitter if you have one! Or you can always email me. Otherwise this comment is a lovely place to chat!

    ReplyDelete
  19. It's funny to chat with someone from another country! (and I get an opportunity to practice my english!:P)
Yes, the red are the best! then the greens. But mostly I prefer chocolate!!<33 chocolate is the shit! I don't have twitter, but I will look it up!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Alexandra: I would just like to say that that is by far my favorite blog comment ever. "But mostly I prefer chocolate!!<33 chocolate is the shit!" I love it! Oh, and you need a twitter. I demand it.

  21. So, I have a stupid question. Here in Sweden we think that you always walk around with your shoes on indoors, because we see that on TV and in movies. Is it true? If so, we think you Americans are very strange :P

P.S I will probably ask you more stupid questions in the future. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Alexandra: Well yes and no. I am almost constantly barefoot. *looks at feet* Yep I don't even have socks on right now. But if I go to someone elses house I tend to keep my shoes on unless I know them well. Also public places I tend to keep my shoes on. Oh, and that wasn't a stupid question. Bring on the future questions! I would be happy to answer! I might even ask a few myself.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Here in Sweden it is very rude to keep your shoes on when you visit someone else. We always take off our shoes in the hallway. Doesn't it get dirty when you keep your shoes on? What if it has rained? And if you have a wall-to-wall carpet? That can't be easy to clean. Swedes also think wall-to-wall carpets are unpractical and ugly. :P

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well here it is somewhat considered rude to take your shoes off unless the person asks or offers. Yes, carpets can get dirty. I am not a big fan of carpets either, I prefer wood floors. But most of the times here carpets are durable. We "deep clean" our carpets once a month with a steam washer and vacuum often. I like carpets on bare feet though! I am sitting barefoot on my Noonie's carpet at the moment and hers is always very soft and clean! She only has carpet on her upstairs floor and a lovely wood on the main floor.

  25. OK, so now I know your shoe-customs :P That's good if I should ever visit the US (which I hope I will in the future!) I read in your post that you start school soon. Are you in College and are you studying for any specific occupational branch?
By the way the picture that made the cover was so cool!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Alexandra: Well if you come to the US you should tell me! You can come to my house AND take your shoes off! I am a junior in college. My major is Elementary Education. I plan on teaching while I get my masters to be a librarian. That is if this publishing thing doesn't pan out. Oh, and thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  27. The same goes for you if you should come to Sweden! For a while I wanted to become a libraria,n but here it's hard to get accepted for that education 'cuz so many others also want to be that. Then if you were accepted and got your masters you have to find a job and the libraries are often fully employed. So I don't know what I want to be, I am lost at the moment and I panic easily these days 'cuz it's my final year in high school and then WHAT!?! I can't decide! Guess it will be a sabbatical :) Rest and a lot of books.
Publishing thing? Are you publishing more pics?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Alexandra: Awesome! I might take you up on that offer! Yeah, librarians aren't quite as common here, but it's still a tight job to break into. Don't be on sabbatical, take your general education classes. That's what I have done for the first 2 years anyway and that way I have been able to change my mind. You have to take them for a college degree anyway so might as well get them out of the way in the beginning. The publishing thing is not me trying to get published, but working in the publishing industry. Like working for Scholastic or Harper Collins. I was told to take an internship at a publishing house in NYC and I would LOVE that sort of job!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well, we don't have the same school system as you. I don't need to take any general classes 'cuz all students in Sweden read them in high school whatever program they're in, so when I've finished 12th grade I'll have qualification for the university. (Of course there are some educations that require some higer level of classes, but I can easily put that on my schedule). So when I finish high, I'll be ready for the uni directly if I want to :)
I'm tired of school and would really like to do something else, like work or travel. :)
To be in the publishing industry would be even more awesome than a library job. Hope it'll work out for you!
Your Pocahontas lunchbag is so cute! She's my favorite disney character, and Kocoum, the indian warrior, is so hot! haha :P

  30. Yo korianne! I was just clearing up among my bookmarks in the sidebar and I found this link. So now I've been rereading our conversation and laught at it. It was a good chat! :P When I reread the chat about school and that I shouldn't take a year off, well, I've changed my mind. I'm not a 100% sure yet, but I think I want to study english in Brighton for half a year.
Anyway, what I wanned was to make one more comment and just say hi.
So; Hi Korianne! hope everything is fine over in the US! Greetings Alexandra!

  31. Alexandra: We are soo silly! Yay for studying english! Brighton sounds fun. Everything is lovely here. Thank you for asking.
